Introducing Amine Naini, one of Pistachio’s Business Development Representatives (BDRs). He's impressive background reflects both an adventurous spirit and an eagerness to grow. In this Q&A, Amine shares his journey to Pistachio, his approach to tackling daily challenges, and his diverse hobbies outside of the office. Let’s dive in!
Q: Can you share a bit about your journey to Pistachio?
Growing up in Morocco, I was always curious about life beyond my own culture, which really motivated me as I was growing up. In high school, I volunteered with international nonprofits and met some like-minded people, sparking my desire to explore different cultures. Scandinavia caught my eye, not just for its educational opportunities but also for the great work-life balance and cultural values that really resonated with me.
I moved to Finland to get my bachelor's degree and worked in project management there. After that, I continued my studies in Norway at NHH, where I earned my master’s. When I got the chance to do the CEMS dual-degree master’s program, I decided to complete the second part in Stockholm, where I’ll be graduating this December. Once I finished my master’s thesis, I knew I wanted a role where I could use my analytical skills while connecting with people daily. When I found Pistachio, it just seemed like the perfect fit for both my interests and skills. So I applied, and now I'm here.
Q: What does a typical day look like, and how do you tackle challenges?
Most of my workdays involve prospecting and reaching out to potential clients. While I have a general routine, some days can get challenging. It's important to be okay with hearing "no" and to stay motivated, seeing each rejection as part of the journey rather than taking it personally. Keeping a positive mindset really helps me push through those setbacks.
Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Pistachio?
One of the biggest surprises for me is how young and diverse our team is! In my previous jobs, I was often one of the youngest on the team, but here, I’m working alongside people in their early twenties who are incredibly driven and forward-thinking. It’s inspiring to be part of such a supportive and energetic team where everyone is excited to learn and contribute in their own way.
Q: What personal traits or skills have helped you thrive as a BDR?
I’d say emotional intelligence is key. It’s crucial to manage not only my emotions but also to understand those of others. Discipline is also really important and tasks like lead generation can get repetitive, but they’re essential for results. A lot of people think sales is all about enthusiasm, but I think it’s more about consistency and keeping a balanced mindset, even on tough days. Plus, managing expectations is very important; not every day will be perfect and that's ok.
Q: What three words would you use to describe Pistachio's culture?
Diverse, forward-thinking, and driven. We have a unique mix of cultural backgrounds on the team, and there’s always a sense of growth and change. Everyone here is motivated to do their best, and the environment is truly supportive, with team members challenging each other to improve.
Q: Looking back, what is the most important lesson you have learned in your career?
Flexibility and being open to change have been invaluable for me. I don’t really see myself as a fixed person; I constantly adapt and evolve. Being open to new ideas and directions is what keeps you growing, both personally and professionally. If you stay too rigid, you might miss out on some amazing opportunities.
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
There’s a quote from the philosopher called Seneca that really resonates with me: “We suffer more in imagination than in reality”. We tend to worry so much about what could happen that we create unnecessary stress for ourselves. But in reality, things are rarely as bad as we think. Embracing the present and tackling challenges as they come is definitely a healthier way to live.
Q: What are your hobbies? Anything on your bucket list?
I’m really into martial arts, especially Kyokushin and kickboxing. I also love Afrobeat dancing, hiking and meditation, which surprises people since it’s so different from martial arts! As for my bucket list, I’d love to go on a safari in Tanzania. A friend keeps inviting me, so hopefully, that will happen soon!
Q: If you could invite any famous person (dead or alive) to give a talk at Pistachio, who would it be and why?
I’d invite Russell Brunson, the co-founder of ClickFunnels. He built his business from the ground up, growing it into a billion-dollar company without any outside funding. His energy, creativity, and positivity are truly inspiring. He understands the challenges of entrepreneurship and remains humble, despite his success. I believe his passion could really help motivate our team.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Amine a little better. Stay tuned as we shine a light on the unique personalities that make our team so great!
