Introducing Romy Thor, our dedicated Junior Customer Success Manager at Pistachio. Originally from France, Romy's journey to Pistachio began with a spontaneous decision to spend a semester in Norway, which eventually led to her marrying a Norwegian and making a permanent move. In this edition of our "Employee Spotlight" series, Romy shares insights into her role, responsibilities, and her passions outside the office. Let’s get to know her better!

Q: Could you tell us about your background and how you ended up at Pistachio?

I’m originally from France and grew up there. I studied in Bordeaux, where I earned my master’s degree in international management. During my studies, I had the chance to do multiple internships abroad. My decision to go to Norway was somewhat random. At the time, I was interning in Mexico, and I really wanted to experience something completely different. I thought, “What could be more different from Mexico than Norway?” So, I applied and got accepted. I was supposed to stay for just one semester, but I loved it so much that I extended my stay to a full year.

During that time, I met my now-husband, and after completing my masters in France, I returned to Norway for an internship. That was when I decided I really enjoyed working in Norway, not just studying there. I saw a job posting for Pistachio, applied, and here I am!

Q: How would you describe your job and its responsibilities?

I initially joined Pistachio in a dual role as a Business Development Representative and Customer Success Manager, focusing on the French market. My responsibilities included prospecting, securing meetings, facilitating sales, onboarding clients, and maintaining relationships. In April, I transitioned to a full-time role as a Junior Success Manager. Currently, I manage several hundred clients, fostering strong and ongoing partnerships.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Pistachio? Are there any achievements you're particularly proud of?

I really enjoy working with my colleagues; we have a great team dynamic. Coming from a background in hospitality, I really enjoy interacting with people and providing excellent service for our customers. As for accomplishments, I’m especially proud of my swift transition to a full-time customer success role, which has been both challenging and very rewarding.

Q: What skills or qualities are essential for being successful as a customer cussess manager?

Being proactive, staying ahead of potential issues, and adapting to the diverse needs of the clients are key skills in my day-to-day work. I also find it crucial to respect cultural differences, especially since you will probably be handling clients from different backgrounds. I’ve learned to adjust my communication style based on who I am talking to.

Q: What three words would you use to describe Pistachio's culture?

Dedicated, supportive, and hard-working. I think it really defines the environment we have here at Pistachio.

Q: What advice would you give someone starting in customer success?

Don’t let the bad days define your experience. I believe that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. That's the best piece of advice I can offer someone starting in customer success.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any fun facts that might surprise your colleagues?

Outside of work, I love cooking (with a glass of wine, of course!), hosting dinners, and reading. I also enjoy hiking, especially in my hometown of Clermont-Ferrand. A fun fact about me? Well, I'm not sure if it's a surprise, but I have two rabbits, and they're my pride and joy!

Q: What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

Don’t get stuck in the past - just keep moving forward. It’s simple but impactful!

Q: What is one thing you cannot live without?

One thing I would really struggle to let go of is mountains. I was born and raised in an area that is surrounded by volcanoes. So now I need mountains nearby to feel alive, and I need to have the option to climb a summit if I feel like it.
